Prayer to Saint Joseph
Oh, Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. Oh, Saint Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your divine kid all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.
Oh, Saint Joseph, I never weary of contemplating you, and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not technique while He reposes near your heart. press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me and ask him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls – Pray for me.
Saint Joseph was the daddy of Jesus and he has several feast days in the Catholic church. March 19 is one of his feast days. On Saturday our parish had a special pot-luck celebrating the feast day of St. Joseph. Saint Joseph is also the patron saint of Sicily. During the middle ages there was a famine in Sicily. The people prayed to Saint Joseph and promised that if he answered their prayers they would honor him with a banquet. The rain did arrive and the people of Sicily celebrated with a feast. Today, Italians still honor St. Joseph with a large meatless meal called the St. Joseph’s table. This meal is meatless and normally includes several pasta dishes and special baked bread. This celebration takes place on or around his feast day of March 19.
